Northern Virginia Community College Center for Design, Media and Arts
Alexandria, Virginia
The three-story LEED-certified academic facility serves the college’s art and music programs. The building supports digital graphic design, photography, dance, and drama programs. It also features an exercise room, a bookstore with a café, and a Head Start facility with an outdoor play area.
The outdoor entry plaza contributes to the pre-function space necessary for presentations and performances. The two terraces accommodate outdoor studio work, student lounges, and overflow for bookstore café patrons.
This project is certified LEED Gold. Sustainable design elements include low-flow plumbing fixtures to reduce water use by more than 30 percent and exterior light fixtures that help prevent light pollution.
